Job Title NixOS + SlapOS fusion Location Lille (accommodation possible) or remote Type Full time Reference Offer-2023-Nixos-Slapos-Fusion Description SlapOS and NixOS are two modern approaches to operating systems with goals of complete reproducibility and portability. SlapOS and NixOS are both founded on a Domain Specific Language (DSL) to describe a distributed build system along up to the orchestration system, and, in the case of SlapOS, up to the billing system. NixOS is a complete Linux distribution whose Nix utility is capable of generating the base system configuration in a reproducible and deterministic manner. In SlapOS, everything is a service: SlapOS is not an OS but behaves as an overlay allowing to automate deployment of distributed systems under any Un*x (Linux, FreeBSD, etc.). It is also an edge cloud engine (OSS/BSS). The purpose of the internship is to imagine how to combine the best of SlapOS and NixOS in one system: use Nix to automate building of SlapOS packaging on many OS or to configure the base system, add Nix packaging support to SlapOS, use SlapOS as a Nix orchestrator, etc. This could then provide the best principles of free systems conceived for reproducibility.
