Staff Engineer, Development Lifecycle

OverviewLead our effort to get Ubuntu fit for applications in automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics and other highly regulated environments. Ubuntu is already the world’s most widely used Linux in general; we want it to be the world’s best choice for mission-critical systems in these sectors. This role will transform complex demands into concrete outcomes and establish engineering excellence values and practices that deliver those outcomes. It requires leading and challenging engineering culture across teams, and unifying agile approaches to adopt and internalise these values at every level of engineering. You will help Canonical define its ways of working, collaborate with engineering leadership to implement continuous improvement processes, and establish qualification requirements in support of engineering quality standards. You will also establish strategic relations with external working groups, committees and partners and join the industrial standards team to drive this vision.Location: This role may be held anywhere in European, Middle Eastern, African or Americas regions or time zones. Responsibilities Lead the effort to align engineering culture and practices with regulatory, compliance and certification demands for mission-critical environments. Translate complex requirements into concrete outcomes and actionable engineering processes. Collaborate with teams across Canonical to implement continuous improvement, measurement methods, and quality standards. Define and drive methods for measuring quality and use them to shape engineering culture. Establish and nurture strategic relations with external groups, committees and partners. Work with engineering leadership to describe and implement new ways of working within the company. Qualifications Strong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment. Knowledge or certification of quality standards such as ISO/IEC 25010 or ASPICE. Experience leading successful compliance and certification efforts and stakeholder management. Experience with Linux. Track record of developing and growing people and teams. Additional Skills Background as a software developer. Experience establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. What we offer Your base pay depends on factors including location, level of experience, knowledge and skills.
