OverviewEngineering Manager - Security Standards and Hardening at Canonical. This role leads the security standards for open source software across the Ubuntu platform, including cryptographic modules (FIPS 140) and system hardening, and collaborates with partners such as CIS and DISA.What you will doLead and develop a team of engineers, spanning from entry-level to seniorCoach, mentor, and provide career development feedbackIdentify and measure team health indicatorsImplement disciplined engineering processesRepresent the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customersDevelop and evangelise engineering and organizational practicesPlan and manage progress on goals and projectsSupport products and customers to meet security requirements (e.g., FIPS, CIS, STIG, FedRAMP, CRA)Address cryptography modules (FIPS 140) and system hardening efforts with industry partners (e.g., CIS, DISA)What we are looking for in youStrong academic track record and undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternativeDrive and a history of exceeding expectationsExcellent verbal and written English communicationLove of developing people and a track record of growing talentOrganised with the ability to deliver timely, high-quality resultsProfessional interactions with colleagues, partners, and communityExperience with FIPS/Common Criteria certified products and knowledge of underlying standardsExperience with DISA-STIG or CIS benchmarks and related audit/remediation tooling (Compliance as Code)Knowledgeable and passionate about software and application securityExperience working in an agile development environmentDemonstrated drive for continual learningAbility to build trust, relationships and confidenceResult-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitmentsAbility to travel up to twice a year for company events, for up to two weeks eachNice to haveHands-on domain knowledge of Linux cryptography libraries (OpenSSL, GnuTLS)What we offerDistributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprintsPersonal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per yearAnnual compensation review and performance-driven bonusesAdditional benefits aligned with local needsFair and globally inclusive compensation practicesAbout CanonicalCanonical is a pioneering tech firm at the forefront of open source.
