Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated graduate student to assist in conducting legal research on issues related to international law within the Office of International Standards and Legal Affairs at UNESCO.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting legal research on international law issues, including international civil service law, privileges and immunities, law of international organizations, and contract law.
- Prepare legal advice on institutional matters and issues arising before or during the execution of the Organization's program.
- Assist in preparing meetings of the governing bodies of the Organization or statutory organs of conventions adopted under the auspices of UNESCO.
- Provide legal advice to clients on administrative law matters, including policies, agreements, and issues related to the Medical Benefits Fund and UNESCO Staff Savings & Loan Services.
- Review appeals against administrative decisions and assist in drafting the Organization's submissions before the Appeals Board and the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent) or have recently graduated with a Master's degree or PhD (or second degree as defined above).
- Excellent command of English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language (English or French) an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of computer systems and office-related software.
- Ability to work well in a team and adapt to an international working environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
