Position Overview

The Investment Associate will assist CDPQ in achieving its strategic goals by providing guidance on transaction execution aligned with the necessary risk and return parameters, as well as aiding in the post-investment oversight of CDPQ's assets in Europe. The Associate will also support Directors in various research and strategic projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively engage in the evaluation of investment prospects.
  • Create and assess comprehensive financial models, emphasizing critical aspects of the investment rationale, including conducting sensitivity analyses and reviewing financial forecasts and valuation assumptions.
  • Offer insights on the valuation of potential investments utilizing suitable methodologies (discounted cash flows, multiples, etc.).
  • Facilitate thorough due diligence processes for investment opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of authorization documents for new investment ventures.
  • Assist colleagues in negotiating transaction agreements and ownership structures.
  • Aid in the development of business and strategic plans.
  • Proactively track financial and operational metrics, along with financial reports of portfolio companies.
  • Enhance the portfolio's value by analyzing key industry trends and strategic challenges for portfolio companies.
  • Prepare internal and external reports regarding portfolio companies.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on trends and fundamentals within the covered sector: consistently monitor market news and gather information from relevant sources.
  • Generate detailed analyses of the infrastructure sector's primary challenges and propose implementation strategies.
  • Create sector-specific studies on potential target markets for development.
  • Develop effective tools for research and market monitoring.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or engineering;
  • Master's degree in finance; an MBA, CFA, or CPA would be advantageous;
  • Master's degree in engineering will also be considered an asset;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in private equity, infrastructure, or investment banking;
  • Strong experience in financial analysis and modeling;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Proficiency in English and French, both spoken and written. Other European languages would be considered an asset.
