Internship Overview
Context
Distinct from conventional IT systems utilized in organizations, Industrial Information Systems facilitate the management of physical industrial processes through components such as sensors, actuators, and controllers. This network of sensors, once connected to the Internet, is referred to as the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things).
The IIoT represents just one facet of a broader concept, the industrial transformation. Under this umbrella, we encompass technological advancements that empower the industry to enhance efficiency. The configuration of production units is reimagined, both internally and in interactions with other organizational systems. The notion of smart factories is also prevalent in this context.
How can we guarantee the security of devices within a diverse environment where both modern and outdated systems coexist, utilizing insecure proprietary protocols and accumulating vulnerabilities? While such a scenario was manageable when these devices operated in isolation, it is no longer acceptable when the system is connected to the Internet.
Internship Goals
The primary aim of this internship is to enrich the vision of security for the factory of the future (business requirements, security challenges, risk assessment, maturity evaluation, target architecture, etc.), to gain insights into the IIoT domain, and to develop tools and methodologies for assessing maturity levels and providing recommendations for securing industrial environments.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern may be tasked with some or all of the following responsibilities:
- Conducting comprehensive risk assessments on the Industrial Information System, with a particular focus on the IIoT.
- Creating a maturity evaluation tool for the Industrial Information System, especially concerning the IIoT.
- Executing a 'Proof of Concept' based on the security evaluation of one or more industrial or IIoT systems.
The specific title and scope of the internship or tasks to be undertaken will be confirmed at the commencement of the internship.
