Position Overview
The Country Finance Manager plays a pivotal role within the Aga Khan Academies, reporting directly to the Country Manager. This position is integral to the core management team, tasked with overseeing and directing the financial and grant management operations of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the finance, grants, and accounting sectors of the organization.
- Generate and interpret precise monthly financial and management reports, which include cash balance statements, income statements, balance sheets, budget variances, projections, and cash flow analyses.
- Assist the Country Manager in preparing board documentation and conducting financial analyses as required by stakeholders.
- Ensure all financial transactions are executed accurately, punctually, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as compliance with organizational and donor regulations.
- Conduct quarterly reviews of the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring all assets are correctly tagged and identified.
- Prepare and submit cash requests to donors, while diligently following up on fund disbursements and receivables.
- Oversee and process various transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, revenue and expenses, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
- Execute month-end closing activities, including overhead allocations and account reconciliations, and coordinate the preparation of financial data for annual reports.
- Prepare necessary documentation for annual statutory audits, internal audits, donor audits, and governmental audits, ensuring timely completion and implementation of audit recommendations.
- Establish benchmarks for measuring organizational performance through cash flow reports, annual budgets, and forecasts.
- Analyze budget variances and report significant issues to management, assisting in the timely preparation of Grants, Property, and administrative budgets.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure budget submissions are completed on time, leading the consolidation of the country budget and ensuring accurate cost allocation to grants and projects.
- Assist in developing audit schedules for annual audits, conduct spot checks on partners, monitor expenditures, and aid in the preparation and review of donor reports.
- Support proposal development, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and adherence to accounting policies and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, complemented by a professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA.
- Proven experience working with consortiums and international multilateral and bilateral donors.
- Demonstrated expertise in the budgeting process within a multi-donor environment.
- Familiarity with Business Central & Jet Reporting ERP systems is advantageous; experience with any ERP system is essential.
- Experience in an international development organization is preferred.
- Proficient in preparing and supervising annual financial accounts.
- Experience with annual external audits, internal grant reviews, and donor audits is crucial.
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to exhibit effective managerial and leadership capabilities.
Travel Requirements: 30%
