Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer science, data science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment and demonstrate a strong record of engaged teaching and research. Experience in software development across various contexts and programming languages is essential. An interdisciplinary interest in social sciences or applied disciplines is advantageous. Familiarity with liberal arts education is preferred. Proficiency in English is required, while knowledge of French is a plus but not mandatory.
Candidates should exhibit expertise in their respective areas of Computer Science or Data Science, evidenced by academic publications, contributions to open-source codebases, and a record of teaching excellence.
We particularly welcome applications from those with teaching, research, or industry experience in fields such as data science, software engineering, artificial intelligence (including machine/deep learning), high-performance computing, cybersecurity, and theoretical computer science. Strong applications from related areas of Computer Science, Data Science, and AI are also encouraged.

Established in 1962, The American University of Paris (AUP) is a small institution offering undergraduate and master's degrees with a Liberal Arts core, committed to promoting the Arts & Sciences in a diverse and international context. AUP integrates the values of the American higher education system with its European location.
The Department:
Emphasizing the principles of liberal arts, the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Science fosters a contextualized and interactive learning environment. The department promotes interdisciplinary education and research, maintaining strong connections with other university departments and research centers globally.
The full-time faculty possess diverse expertise, including artificial intelligence, automated reasoning, human-computer interaction, number theory, group theory, statistics, operations research, astronomy, ecology, evolutionary biology, and climate modeling. The department offers a major in Computer Science, interdisciplinary majors in Quantitative Environmental Science, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Environmental Studies, along with five minors. It also houses a master's program in Human Rights and Data Science and is developing a growing curriculum in Data Science.
Responsibilities:
- The teaching load consists of six courses per academic year.
- Teaching responsibilities will primarily focus on the department's curriculum. Depending on expertise, successful candidates may be required to teach:
- Introductory programming courses
- Core undergraduate CS courses such as Human-Computer Interaction, Database Applications, Algorithms and Data Structures, and Software Engineering, as well as introductory mathematics courses like Math for Life and Applied Statistics
- Other Data Science/Computer Science courses at the undergraduate or graduate level, based on scheduling needs
- They may also be asked to develop and teach advanced Data Science courses or other classes in their area of interest
- Professional mentorship is a vital aspect of our engagement with students.
- Commitment to scholarship, excellence in teaching, and integrative learning is expected.
- Service to the department, including contributions to curricular development and innovation, collegial behavior, and student advising.
- Willingness to engage in university service, including committee participation, assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Participation in faculty governance, including attendance at faculty, department, and committee meetings.
- Collaboration with the university community in a professional and collegial manner.
- Adherence to policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Manual.
Faculty at AUP must demonstrate a commitment to liberal arts education in a highly international setting and engage in international research and scholarship. We seek dedicated scholars with high expectations for teaching and scholarly research.
