Thales in the Czech Republic boasts a diverse workforce of over 400 individuals from 45 nationalities. Our 15 specialized teams are dedicated to projects across various sectors, including government, banking, mobile services, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. Central to our operations is the development of software that we configure and integrate into a wide array of devices and formats. These include payment cards, SIM cards, travel passes, secure eBanking devices, authentication tokens, machine identification modules (MIM), and secure identification documents such as ePassports, eID, eHealth cards, and eDriving licenses. Given our international environment, English serves as our official corporate language.
As a Software Development Engineer, you will engage in the issuance and verification of secure documents (Passports, ID cards, Driver licenses, Tachograph cards) and the cryptographic validation of identification documents at border control. You will gain insights into the principles that are transforming modern e-government.
As part of our Research and Development team, you will play a vital role in the creation of key products and components that empower other Thales teams to deliver customized solutions to governments and citizens worldwide.
In our team, we utilize Spring and Java EE for developing web applications focused on the production of identity documents and the processing of biometric and cryptographic data.
A typical week for a Java Developer includes:
- Collaborating closely with the product owner to analyze product requirements and contribute to specifications and design.
- Participating in product development alongside a team of developers and testers.
- Providing support to other teams utilizing your source code and binaries.
- Contributing to the user documentation of your software.
- Working on proof-of-concept projects for new technologies and innovative solutions.
- Offering technical support and mentorship to junior team members.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of Spring or Java EE platforms, web technologies, and a solid understanding of relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL) and continuous integration.
- Experience with cloud technologies, digital security, cryptography, PKI, smart cards, biometrics, image processing algorithms, and frontend development (Angular, React) is advantageous.
- Fluency in English.
- A passion for technology, a commitment to software development, and a desire for continuous learning. A team player with excellent communication skills. Practical experience with Scrum methodologies is a plus.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in developing enterprise applications using Java.
