About the Role

At AXA, we're seeking a highly skilled Senior Earthquake Modeler to join our Group Risk Management Property & Casualty team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary staff, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining advanced earthquake risk models in various geographies, with a focus on Europe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and evolution of earthquake models, including hazard modeling and vulnerability modules
  • Analyze earthquake post-event claims to evaluate model performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Conduct various risk analysis for management regarding earthquake risks
  • Contribute to the live CAT event response for earthquake risks and automate related reporting
  • Participate in research and innovation around earthquake modeling activities
  • Provide regular training and presentations on earthquake risk and models to AXA's entities and various stakeholders at the Group level
  • Understand critical issues regarding earthquake modeling
  • Improve current earthquake modeling solutions to ensure quality and sustainability
  • Introduce new ideas to enhance the earthquake modeling framework
  • Raise awareness among stakeholders about earthquake risk and modeling
Requirements
  • Engineering or master's degree in mathematics, physics, or data science
  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (geophysics, geology, or geosciences) would be considered a plus
  • Strong programming and data analysis skills (Python, C, and R) - Ability to write clean and robust code
  • Proficient in writing technical documentation - 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with OpenQuake is highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of risk management and/or natural catastrophe modeling topics is a plus
  • You are autonomous, proactive, and with a strong sense of team spirit
  • Ability to communicate complex modeling topics to various stakeholders with a research-oriented mindset
  • Fluent in French and Business English (spoken and written)
