Alma is a dynamic organization seeking a skilled Senior Artificial Intelligence Model Developer to join its expanding AI/ML team within the Data department. As the company broadens its ML capabilities across the organization, it is looking for an enthusiastic individual to contribute to its core risk assessment models and drive innovation in new areas of the business.
About the Role
As a Senior Artificial Intelligence Model Developer at Alma, you will join a team that has successfully developed critical ML solutions for its core business, including:
- Risk assessment tools for merchant onboarding and ongoing evaluation
- Customer scoring models that balance frictionless payment experiences with default minimization and client acceptance maximization
- Fraud prevention systems for both clients and merchants
The ideal candidate will:
- Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of core risk assessment and fraud prevention models
- Collaborate on new ML initiatives across various business units, applying skills to diverse challenges beyond risk management
- Participate in the full ML lifecycle, from data collection and preprocessing to model development, deployment, and monitoring
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and implement ML opportunities that drive business value
- Help maintain a balance between risk-focused projects and new ML initiatives
About Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and refining ML models for risk assessment, fraud detection, and customer experience optimization
- Exploring and implementing ML solutions for new business areas, such as customer support automation or merchant onboarding assistance
- Contributing to the team's MLOps practices, improving model deployment and monitoring processes
- Participating in code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions within the team
- Staying informed about the latest ML research and technologies, applying new techniques to solve complex business problems
About You
The ideal candidate should have:
- Education: A Master's degree in a relevant field (computer science, machine learning, mathematics, engineering, statistics, etc.)
- Experience: At least 1 year of full-time permanent experience (internships & apprenticeships excluded) in machine learning or data science
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Language: Fluency in English is mandatory. Fluency in French will be a plus
Technical Qualifications
Technical qualifications include:
- A solid understanding of ML fundamentals, including supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques
- Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP)
- Knowledge of MLOps practices and tools
Estimated Salary
The estimated salary for this position is approximately $120,000 per annum, based on industry standards and location. This figure may vary depending on individual factors and negotiation.
About the Recruitment Process

- Technical interview with Head of Data & MLE (45 minutes)
- Applied ML / Python interview and ML system design interview with MLEs (60-90 minutes)
