Job Title: Optical Engineer

Capijobnew is seeking a highly skilled Optical Engineer to join our team. As an Optical Engineer, you will play a critical role in planning, engineering, and documenting optical transmission systems to deliver optimal wave solutions for Europe.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Review bespoke and on-net solution designs to ensure strategic fit with network growth and expansion goals.
  2. Work with the wider operations team to identify and deliver synergies to simplify the network, improve service, and reduce cost where possible.
  3. Pro-actively manage network capacity and, as required, trigger, manage, and deliver infrastructure upgrade projects to maintain the capability to deliver customer services.
  4. Liaison with Sales Engineering to ensure network solutions fit with general European architecture strategy, and to ensure strategy evolves with broad customer requirements.
  5. Work closely with vendors to implement changes, additions, and upgrades to optical infrastructure networks.
  6. Support implementation and service activation with network and vendor knowledge.
  7. Work closely with the wider Operations team to ensure efficient delivery of customer services to achieve company quarterly Gross, Churn, and Net service activations.
  8. Pro-actively manage disconnect tasks to ensure best use of network capacity.
  9. Manage infrastructure spend and provide accurate quarterly forecasts for the business.
  10. Work with product group peers to ensure alignment with global provisioning processes and also ensure regional needs are captured and supported.
Other Responsibilities:
  1. Attend Customer meetings when required and provide technical input and direction.
  2. Personal development - update relevant knowledge & skills in line with trends and developments in the field.
  3. Support the development of Capijobnew by taking part in business planning and liaison work with other teams.
  4. Comply with departmental, corporate controls and procedures and all internal control processes.
  5. Maintain the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct self with the greatest degree of professional integrity.
  6. Undertake any other ad hoc duties as deemed appropriate by the appropriate Manager/Director.
Requirements:
  1. Substantial experience in optical transmission systems.
  2. In-depth technical understanding of the components in optical telecommunications networks and a demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate technical data, methods, and procedures.
  3. Working knowledge of WDM transmission equipment. Experience with Ciena, Nokia, Ekinops, and Adva would be an advantage.
  4. Confident and able to challenge staff, suppliers, and processes to deliver a favorable Customer outcome.
  5. Knowledge of use of optical test equipment desirable.
  6. Ability to diversify and adapt to business needs.
  7. Pragmatic and analytical approach to problem solving. Accountability oriented.
