Responsibilities
The role involves ultra-high resolution molecular spectroscopy and frequency metrology utilizing cutting-edge mid-infrared technologies.
The project focuses on the advancement of ultra-high resolution molecular spectrometers, employing state-of-the-art mid-infrared (mid-IR) technologies. It is part of a broader initiative funded by national research grants. The selected candidate will be integrated into a leading research laboratory, under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.

Activities
The laboratory is dedicated to developing high-resolution spectrometers for precision vibrational spectroscopy of gas-phase molecules, whether cold or at ambient temperature, to enhance fundamental physics testing and precision measurements. The successful candidate will work on leveraging advanced mid-IR technologies in this context. These technologies include (i) laser sources: sub-Hz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) in the mid-IR, QCLs in new mid-IR regions (wavelengths beyond 15 μm) ... (ii) new amplitude or phase modulators that are both fast and broadband (iii) other mid-IR photonic devices, such as new ultrafast detectors (like quantum well infrared photodetectors) ... The selected individual will particularly utilize mid-IR amplitude and phase modulators that are integrated, high-efficiency, and broadband (up to ~40 GHz) based on technologies developed by partner institutions. They will demonstrate the potential of these modulators for innovative applications in precision spectroscopy. This will require the use of metrology-grade QCLs and the establishment of demonstrators for frequency metrology and ultra-high resolution spectroscopy.
This project will significantly advance the fields of frequency metrology, mid-IR photonics, and cold molecule research. It opens up possibilities for utilizing polyatomic molecules and mid-IR technologies to conduct fundamental physics tests and probe the limits of the standard model, as well as explore applications in astrophysics and atmospheric sciences. The candidate will contribute to a cutting-edge field, gaining expertise in state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies.
Required Skills
The candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant field of experimental physics or physical chemistry: molecular physics, atomic physics, spectroscopy, photonics, optics and lasers, quantum optics. They should demonstrate initiative and creativity, along with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve the project's objectives.
Work Environment
The project is a collaboration between several research institutions, aiming for the development of integrated, high-efficiency, and broadband amplitude and phase modulators and their application in high-resolution spectroscopy. The activities will take place within a prominent research team, but the selected candidate will interact with all project partners, playing a crucial role in maximizing synergy among them.
