About the Role
Sanofi Ventures (SV) serves as the corporate venture capital division of Sanofi. SV possesses the capability to initiate and lead investments in early-stage private enterprises that present innovative concepts, transformative products, or groundbreaking technologies of strategic relevance to Sanofi. Key focus areas include immunology, oncology, rare diseases, vaccines, potential cures in other core sectors of Sanofi's operations, and digital health innovations.
At SV, our collaborative approach is integral to our operations. We seek a team-oriented investor who thrives in a cooperative work environment to help fulfill SV's therapeutic investment objectives. In this capacity, the Principal collaborates closely with senior investment professionals to foster new investment ideas, conduct thorough due diligence, and manage existing investments. As the Principal advances in their role, there will be opportunities to lead transactions and/or assume board observer and director positions. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to comprehend, analyze, and synthesize information across various therapeutic domains to inform investment decisions. Additionally, it is crucial for candidates to grasp the strategic rationale, business principles, financial assessments, and market dynamics that influence investment choices. Principals will gain extensive exposure to company management teams, Sanofi R&D colleagues, investor conferences, and other resources utilized by SV in making investment determinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Investment Analysis: Deliver comprehensive analytical and due diligence support for new investment prospects. Collaborate with technical and business teams to assess investment opportunities; seek insights and guidance from senior investment professionals, R&D, advisors, and others as necessary regarding the prioritization and selection of investment candidates. Lead the due diligence process, including discussions with internal and external key opinion leaders such as physicians, scientists, and other consultants; conduct market assessments and develop therapeutic market and financial models. Facilitate and ultimately lead negotiations with management teams of targeted companies.
- Portfolio Management and Deal Tracking: Monitor, prioritize, and maintain new and ongoing deal opportunities within the deal database. Actively prioritize the most significant deals. Oversee and support the management of existing portfolio companies by taking on board observer roles (and eventually full director positions) when suitable. Assist in analysis and provide recommendations for the divestment of public company holdings.
- Active Team Member: Engage actively in SV initiatives and represent SV with the highest standards in both internal and external contexts. Prepare presentations and reports, taking primary responsibility for content, style, and analytics associated with quarterly investment meetings. Contribute to the preparation of Investment Committee materials and present deal recommendations to the Investment Committee. Represent SV externally at panels, pitch competitions, and other relevant speaking engagements.
About You
- Master's or PhD degree in Life Sciences, or MD degree. PhD preferred.
- At least 4 years of experience at a Venture Capital firm with direct investment analysis and due diligence experience in Therapeutics (essential).
- Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
