Within AXA IM Alts, the Alternative Credit department oversees nearly €50 billion in assets related to alternative credit (including ABS & CLO, ILS, Private Financings, Significant Risk Transfer, Mortgages, Loans & Private Debt, Credit Hedging Fund, etc.), with a local presence in Europe and the United States.
The Portfolio Manager / Analyst will become part of the Alternative Credit Origination team, which focuses on tailored securitizations (including CLO warehousing) and is responsible for managing funds aimed at retail clients, characterized by complex operational setups, including various investment guidelines and specific liquidity requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate trade ideas through discussions with arranging banks and sponsors, reviewing research papers, and conducting competitive and market intelligence.
- Underwrite and structure new investments, including transaction modeling, legal documentation review in collaboration with legal and tax teams, negotiations with deal counterparties, due diligence on managers or servicers, ESG scoring, and sustainability risk assessment, along with drafting credit memos and presentations for internal committees.
- Monitor existing investments through quantitative analysis of historical performance, cash flow forecasting, regular discussions with key stakeholders, and analysis and recommendations on potential amendments.
- Manage the portfolio by allocating validated investments across funds, booking new transactions, validating net asset values, and overseeing currency or interest hedging transactions, while participating in investor reporting.
- Develop and maintain quantitative tools using Python / Excel VBA and other applications to rank CLO managers, produce mark-to-model valuations, or establish internal rating models.
- Support business development by preparing case studies on past investments and marketing documents outlining the investment strategy for prospective investors.
- Collaborate closely with IT developers to integrate developed tools into other front office systems.
- Work in close partnership with the structuring team on the launch and/or restructuring of new investment vehicles.
Education/Qualifications: Degree from a top engineering school, business school, or university with a focus on mathematics, finance, and/or computer science.
Experience: Previous experience (e.g., internships) in a banking or asset management environment; prior exposure to securitization (e.g., through projects or dedicated courses) is advantageous.
Knowledge & Skills: Strong proficiency in Excel and VBA, along with intermediate skills in Python.
