Role Overview: The primary function of the Control Systems Engineer within the DTI is to support industrial investment initiatives in instrumentation, control systems, and regulatory compliance across Saint-Gobain Glass manufacturing facilities globally. This role also involves managing the standard specifications for instrumentation within the technical department and promoting best practices.
Expertise and Responsibilities: As the central expert in instrumentation and control systems for flat glass production, the Control Systems Engineer will exhibit significant autonomy and technical leadership, collaborating with glass manufacturing plants worldwide.
Main Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing technical standards related to instrumentation and process control systems.
- Developing and updating standard specifications, data sheets, and P&IDs.
- Coordinating the evolution and enhancement of technical standards in response to changing requirements, including process modifications, regulatory standards, and cost efficiency.
- Providing support for investment projects focused on instrumentation and control systems.
- Ensuring adherence to Saint-Gobain standards by project teams and suppliers throughout project execution.
- Collaborating with project and plant operation teams to define project scopes based on technical assessments and operational needs.
- Engaging in all phases of technical procurement, including specification development, offer evaluation, and acceptance testing.
- Monitoring the commissioning of various systems and conducting functional tests on-site prior to production initiation.
- Assisting in the optimization of control systems and supporting production ramp-up activities.
- Facilitating the resolution of project-related issues and tracking system performance during production ramp-up.
- Compiling project documentation and integrating feedback and lessons learned to refine technical standards and supplier methodologies.
- Providing ongoing support to operational glass manufacturing facilities.
- Contributing to troubleshooting efforts related to instrumentation or control systems within the plants.
- Conducting technical evaluations in manufacturing facilities.
- Participating in procurement processes and maintaining technical awareness.
- Staying informed about relevant equipment and measurement methodologies.
- Managing relationships with certified instrumentation suppliers.
- Identifying and validating potential new suppliers in collaboration with the purchasing team.
Commissioning Participation: The role requires involvement in both Cold and Hot Commissioning phases, including process start-up and stabilization of new or renovated plants, known as "Glass Tests," which entail comprehensive evaluations of equipment and systems prior to production commencement.
