Position Overview
About the Organization
The Adolescent Medicine Department caters to young individuals aged 10 to 18 years, providing a range of essential services:
- Addressing psycho-social challenges (including depression, self-harm, and eating disorders): 28% of admissions
- Care for adolescents experiencing vaso-occlusive crises related to sickle cell disease: 25% of hospitalized youth
- Management of childhood diabetes, which ranks as the third most common condition in our unit, complemented by a dedicated therapeutic education initiative
- Other prevalent conditions include respiratory illnesses, infections, neurological issues, and Crohn's disease, among others.
This academic department is actively engaged in educational initiatives, as well as medical and paramedical research. It encompasses three nationally recognized reference centers: one focusing on sickle cell disease and thalassemic syndromes, another on rare respiratory conditions, and a third dedicated to cystic fibrosis resources and expertise. The team is proficient in pain management and offers five therapeutic education programs within the department.
The department is composed of a diverse multidisciplinary team, including pediatricians, child psychiatrists, nurses, nursing assistants, and special education professionals.
