PhD Position in Unconventional AI Accelerator Reliability Enhancement

Inria Rennes - Bretagne Atlantique Centre is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on the reliability enhancement of unconventional AI accelerators. The successful candidate will be part of a research team focused on developing innovative solutions for AI applications.

Research Objectives

The PhD student will investigate the impact of radiation-induced faults on the reliability of PIM accelerators for deep neural networks. The research will involve characterizing the radiation-induced impact on system reliability, developing fault mitigation techniques, and deploying effective hardening solutions tailored for PIM executing DNNs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Characterize the radiation-induced impact on system reliability for different DNN model architectures
  • Develop fault mitigation techniques for PIM accelerators
  • Deploy effective hardening solutions tailored for PIM executing DNNs
  • Participate in international experiments and internships at laboratories like Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK and Los Alamos National Laboratory in the USA
  • Present research progress in a clear and detailed manner

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of computer architecture
  • HW design: VHDL/Verilog basics, HW synthesis flow
  • Basic programming knowledge (C/C++, python)
  • Basics of Machine Learning
  • Experience with High-Level Synthesis (HLS) is a plus
  • Experience in fault-tolerant architectures is a plus
  • Knowledge of compilers and LLVM is a plus

Language

Proficiency in written English and fluency in spoken English.

Relational Skills

The candidate will work in a research team, where regular meetings will be set up. The candidate has to be able to present the progress of their work in a clear and detailed manner.
