Position Overview - Second Opinion Actuary for Reserving
This role is integral to the AXA XL Risk Management division, specifically within the Actuarial Risk Center of Excellence, focusing on Reserving.
About the Role
The selected candidate will contribute significantly to the team's objectives, ensuring that AXA XL's reserves are maintained at appropriate levels while providing an independent assessment of the company's technical reserves and profitability. This position requires conducting various technical reviews as mandated by senior management.
The Reserving Risk Management team undertakes comprehensive actuarial analyses and valuations across all technical provisions, covering a wide array of AXA XL's business lines globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular technical and reserve valuation analyses across relevant business lines. Develop and select appropriate reserving assumptions and methodologies, ensuring their validity through rigorous validation measures.
- Deliver independent assessments of AXA XL's Technical Reserves and profitability to senior management, with particular emphasis on two annual reserve evaluations.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on reserving matters pertaining to AXA XL's insurance and reinsurance sectors.
- Ensure compliance of reserving policies and procedures with established standards.
- Participate in profitability reviews and conduct in-depth analyses on specific lines of business in collaboration with the Underwriting team.
- Communicate and justify results to relevant teams as required.
- Contribute to regulatory compliance and engage in internal projects related to claims and reserving.
- Foster strong relationships with Claims, Finance, Underwriting, and Reinsurance departments to monitor trends and developments in profitability and reserving.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Qualification as an actuary with relevant post-qualification experience.
- Expertise in P&C actuarial practices, particularly in reserving and modeling.
- Proficiency in building and utilizing various actuarial models, with knowledge of data analytics being advantageous.
- A solid understanding of the interconnections between Underwriting, Claims, and Reserves assessment.
Soft Skills
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, problem-solving capabilities, and effective communication skills are essential. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to new situations is crucial.
Experience
Experience in P&C actuarial fields, particularly in reserving, is required. Demonstrated enhancement of actuarial tools and modeling capabilities, along with familiarity with the P&C commercial and corporate insurance market, is preferred.
