Position OverviewThe Senior Product Development Specialist for Bags acts as the primary collaborator with Design, responsible for converting design concepts into innovative, high-quality products that reflect both creativity and technical precision.
This position carries the comprehensive responsibility of steering, influencing, and managing intricate development processes from the initial idea through to prototyping and commercialization, with a focus on luxury execution, design fidelity, superior quality, and fit.
A key factor for success in this role is effective calendar management, along with seamless collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams to deliver outstanding products that align with strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and influence the development of designated bag styles from concept to market launch, integrating innovative practices (such as vendor 3D capabilities) at every stage to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Work closely with Design as a collaborative partner to bring creative visions to fruition from concept and prototyping through to market launch, utilizing innovations like 3D visualizations when available.
- Foster innovation by remaining at the forefront of industry trends and technological advancements.
- Leverage extensive knowledge of fabrics and their unique properties suitable for accessory and bag construction, supported by insights from innovations such as 3D/AI simulations (vendor and market research).
- Supervise the creation of physical samples and prototypes, ensuring they adhere to established standards, design intent, and timeline deliverables.
- Conduct analyses to ensure quality standards and performance align with brand expectations in an innovative manner, ensuring products fulfill both creative and technical requirements.
- Facilitate style reviews, ensuring clear communication of technical and functional requirements to all stakeholders.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to enhance production processes and drive efficiency improvements while elevating product quality.
- Develop comprehensive product specifications through precise Tech Packs, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the development process.
- Create and manage Bill of Materials (BOM) to enhance production accuracy and streamline material sourcing processes.
- Work strategically with Design, Sourcing, and Quality teams to achieve market readiness and exceed quality benchmarks.
- Partner with vendors and Material Development on sourcing strategies to meet design and cost objectives.
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Finance to perform cost analysis and margin assessments, balancing design integrity and functionality to effectively meet financial targets.
- Maintain alignment with product timelines, providing transparent status updates and risk assessments to key stakeholders.
- Support Quality Assurance and Sourcing in promptly addressing production challenges.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through feedback sharing and staying attuned to innovation, market trends, consumer preferences, competitor products, and technological advancements.
- Collaborate closely with Merchandising and Product Education teams to ensure accurate product information and alignment with organizational needs.
- Collaborate, partner, and align with other Product Developers to ensure consistency across product types (i.e., construction standards, processes, and sharing of best practices) while fostering proficiency in garment technology to enhance team capabilities.
Candidate Profile:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Accessory and Bag Development Role.
- Educational background in Industrial Design, Product Design, or Fashion Design preferred.
- A degree in Design is advantageous.
- Proficient in PLM, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator & Photoshop.
- Familiarity with 3D/AI platforms is a plus.
- In-depth technical knowledge of accessory and bag construction techniques, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in cost analysis, production, manufacturing, and sourcing.
- Awareness of sustainable practices in bags and similar product types is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, skilled in fostering collaboration across global teams and translating creative visions into tangible results.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, essential for managing complex projects and deadlines.
- Experience in leading teams and direct reports in a solution-oriented manner.
- Proactive problem solver with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, driven by a dedication to excellence in product development and quality.
