We are seeking a highly skilled Instructional Designer to join our team at the World Health Organization. As an Instructional Designer, you will play a key role in creating engaging and effective educational materials for health professionals around the world.
About the Role:
This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with a talented team of experts who are passionate about improving global health outcomes. As an Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for developing high-quality educational materials that meet the needs of our learners. You will work closely with subject matter experts, educators, and other professionals to ensure that our content is accurate, relevant, and engaging. Your expertise will help us to create interactive and immersive learning experiences that cater to diverse learning styles and preferences.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to identify or clarify the learning needs of the target audience and understand the context in which the learning will take place.
- Assess the needs of learners through various methodologies (e.g., focus groups, surveys) addressing the instructional end-goal defined by technical teams.
- Map a competency-based curriculum structure with topics, objectives, activities, assessments, and content resources, adhering to the WHO Academy Quality Standards and aligned with the WHO Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for Universal Health Coverage to ensure a logical flow of content and a seamless learning experience.
- Define clear and measurable learning outcomes that align with the overall goals of the educational or training program in consultation with Technical Units.
- Design with effective instructional strategies and methods for different learning styles and propose and devise appropriate and innovative methodologies (instructor-led, learner driven, communities of practice) and solutions adapted to various environments.
- Develop engaging and interactive educational materials leveraging technology and instructional tools to enhance the learning experience Ensure content is accessible and inclusive across learners Emphasize technology-enhanced learning solutions, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality.
- Work closely with subject matter experts, educators, and other professionals to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the content.
- Develop assessments to identify level of knowledge and skill before, during and after completion of a course, and advising on evaluation methods to measure learning outcomes.
- Oversee the course project progress timeline, resources, and the integrity of the learning solution design across the phases of the development.
- Serve as primary focal point with subject-matter experts for content and learner needs clarifications Report on the status of completion in close cooperation with the Learning Manager.
- Consult with the learning manager to ensure timely completion of the learning courses.
- Review change requests from reviews and advising on impact of requests Review and revise or update new course versions incorporating feedback and learner data analytics and from stakeholders to improve and refine instructional materials for more effective and engaging courses with content that is relevant and up to date.
- Keep abreast of current trends, technologies, and best practices in instructional design and education. Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Essential: University degree in educational sciences, adult learning, learning/education technologies, instructional design, information science or related field.
- Desirable: Master level education in any of the above related fields. Additional certification in e-learning development or instructional design.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional/learning design. Experience in Learning Production: overall understanding of functionalities of major e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Adapt Learning, Storyline, Lectora, Captivate)
- Working experience in instructional/learning design in the health sector, the field of public health in developing learning solutions for international audience. Working experience in one or more UN Common System organizations. Experience in Project Management.
- Advanced understanding of learning design principles and adult learning. Proficiency in multimedia and e-learning authoring tools. Expertise in preparing detailed storyboards based on course requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to create instructional experiences geared to an adult and professional audience, making the acquisition of knowledge and skills effective, motivating and stimulating. Knowledge of learning management systems and educational technologies, enabling the integration of innovative technological solutions into the learning design process.
- Familiarity with global public health priorities and healthcare delivery systems. Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment. Proven ability to work with a diverse team across different functional areas in different time zones. Ability to communicate and to write technical documents in a clear and concise manner. Tact, diplomacy and discretion.
