Director, UN Ocean Decade Coordination

Job Summary:
UNESCO is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Director of the UN Ocean Decade Coordination. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the implementation of the Ocean Decade, a global initiative aimed at promoting sustainable ocean development and management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of the Ocean Decade strategy and action plan.
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the Ocean Decade Coordination Unit.
- Collaborate with Member States, international organizations, and other stakeholders to promote the Ocean Decade.
- Develop and manage partnerships with key stakeholders to support the Ocean Decade.
- Provide technical assistance and capacity-building support to Member States and other stakeholders.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of the Ocean Decade and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements:
- Advanced university degree in ocean sciences, marine sciences, or a related field.
- At least 15 years of progressive experience in ocean sciences or related fields, with at least 5 years at the international level.
- Strong experience in advocacy and resource mobilization.
- Proven track record of successfully establishing and maintaining partnerships at a global, local, and community level.
- Strong knowledge of state-of-the-art research in the field of ocean strategies.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Professional experience in the United Nations System and/or in the field of international multilateral setting organizations.
- Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish).
Benefits and Entitlements:
UNESCO's salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan, etc.
