PhD Position in Quantum Communication: Exploring Algorithmic Frontiers

Il y a 2 mois

Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France INRIA Temps plein
Project Overview

This project lies at the intersection of quantum information theory, approximation algorithms, and optimization. The goal is to develop an algorithmic theory of communication that surpasses the current approach founded by Shannon's paper 'A Mathematical Theory of Communication'. This involves establishing efficient algorithms for reliable communication using a noisy medium, particularly appealing in the context of quantum information theory due to the limitations of Shannon's approach in the quantum setting.

Research Objectives

The PhD student will focus on designing algorithms to find optimal coding strategies for a given quantum noise model. The research will involve two main areas:

Classical Communication over a Classical-Quantum Channel

The first area of study will be the setting of classical communication over a classical-quantum channel. This involves understanding the output represented by a positive semidefinite matrix W(.|x) for any classical input x. The goal is to develop algorithms that handle the symmetries to obtain a concise representation.

Quantum Communication over a Fully Quantum Channel

The second area of research will be quantum communication over a fully quantum channel. This will involve studying the problem of classical communication over a fully quantum channel, building on the understanding gained from the first area. Again, the focus will be on developing algorithms that handle the symmetries to obtain a concise representation.

Requirements and Qualifications

The applicants should hold a Master's degree in theoretical computer science, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with the basics of quantum information is a requirement.
