Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electronics and Power Systems Architect to become a key member of our In-Orbit Servicing (IoS) team. This role involves leading the development and architectural design of electronic and power systems essential for our innovative Spacevan, a specialized vehicle for small satellite transportation.
The IoS team comprises a diverse group of systems engineers and specialists focused on the initial mission of the Spacevan. Your responsibilities will encompass the comprehensive development of the electronics and power architecture for the platform. This position entails a broad spectrum of tasks, including board design, manufacturing oversight, and testing, as well as high-level design of the satellite's power and data systems. Collaboration with the software development team and existing electronics engineers at Exotrail will be crucial.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop the electronics and power architecture (including electrical, data, grounding, and harness systems) for the Spacevan in collaboration with the IoS team (covering systems, payload, propulsion, etc.)
- Engage in the electrical integration and testing of various Spacevan modules and payloads, preparing procedures for all active subsystems in conjunction with other teams
- Design specialized boards and harnesses for the Spacevan, including component selection, schematics, and routing
- Oversee the manufacturing, procurement, and acceptance testing of in-house designed boards and harnesses
- Manage procurement and testing of power systems
- Coordinate software development efforts with the embedded software team
The Spacevan is equipped with high-performance electric propulsion, necessitating the capability to generate and manage substantial power relative to its size. While complex subsystems will be sourced from specialized suppliers, some boards will be developed in-house. A robust power system is vital for delivering effective services with the Spacevan.
Future enhancements of the Spacevan are anticipated, focusing on higher performance propulsion systems that demand increased power, along with iterative improvements to the vehicle's electronics.
The role of the Electronics and Power Systems Architect may evolve to include the design of new concepts, managerial responsibilities, or a transition to production-focused tasks.
You will collaborate closely with the VP of In-Orbit Services and the Lead Engineer of the IoS team.
Preferred Qualifications
Exotrail is in search of an Electronics and Power Systems Architect with practical experience in electronics design, spanning from initial concept through to production and testing, alongside expertise in high-level architectures. The ideal candidate will have a background in satellite projects and experience in designing electronics for space applications.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in space-related power systems is required, or the candidate must demonstrate exceptional skills relevant to this position.
