Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics to join our team at the Laboratory of Biology and Modeling of the Cell (UMR5239) at ENS Lyon. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing computational tools and methods for analyzing high-throughput sequencing data, particularly RNA-seq. The position is funded by the ERC project eGRIDE, starting in September 2024.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement new functionalities in HTRfit to compare genotype-environment interactions for different transcripts.
- Develop a Nextflow pipeline for analyzing microcolony RNA-seq data, including demultiplexing, indexing, normalization, quality controls, read alignments, and quantifications of transcript levels.
- Analyze available data from pilot microcolony RNA-seq experiments and contribute to the conception and analyses of complementary experiments performed by another scientist in the team.
- Strong programming skills in R, bash, and Python.
- Excellent understanding of NGS approaches, particularly RNA-seq.
- Basic knowledge in genomics, evolutionary biology, genetics, and regulation of gene expression.
- Previous experience in NGS data analysis is highly regarded.
- Proficiency working with Unix/Linux environments and tools for version tracking and collaborative development of computer code (Git).
- Knowledge of tools for code portability (Docker containers, Singularity, or other) is highly regarded.
- Ability to implement Nextflow pipelines is highly regarded.
- Excellent team-working ability to carry out collectively an ambitious research project.
- Proficiency in scientific English (writing, reading, and speaking).
The successful candidate will join a growing team at the beginning of an ambitious research project. The Laboratory of Biology and Modeling of the Cell (UMR5239) is a cutting-edge research institute dedicated to the study of fundamental mechanisms of living cells. We combine experimental approaches in molecular cell biology and genetics with mathematical modeling and computational biology to understand complex processes regulating cellular functions.
