Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The successful candidate will participate in the operation of the ID10 surface scattering station, contribute to ongoing research programmes, and develop their own research programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the ID10 surface scattering station, ensuring optimal performance and data quality.
  • Contribute to the development of data analysis methods and sample environments specific to the beamline.
  • Support external users as a local contact, providing expertise and assistance as needed.
  • Develop and execute their own research programme, in collaboration with beamline scientists.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related subject, obtained within the last three years.
  • Strong aptitude for instrumentation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of research topics relevant to solid-state physics, surface science, and liquid surfaces.
  • Experience in applying scattering techniques (X-ray or neutron scattering) to study soft matter or related systems.
  • Data analysis skills and programming using Python or MATLAB.
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users.
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be employed on a contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 or 18-month period. They will be part of a dynamic and international team, working in a state-of-the-art research facility.
