Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the leadership team at World Athletics. This pivotal role requires a chartered accountant with extensive financial acumen and a strategic mindset, particularly in international and multicultural settings.

The CFO will be based at World Athletics' headquarters and will report directly to the CEO, holding a significant position within the Leadership Group.

About World Athletics

As the global governing body for athletics, World Athletics oversees a diverse range of events, including track and field, road running, and major international competitions. Our mission is to enhance the sport's accessibility and promote a healthier world through athletics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute financial strategies aligned with World Athletics' objectives.
  • Assess and report on financial performance, delivering precise and timely reports to senior leadership.
  • Oversee comprehensive financial management and reporting processes.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Manage cash flow effectively.
  • Supervise the expenditure approval process.
  • Take the lead in financial negotiations and business case developments.
  • Ensure robust financial controls and compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain relationships with external partners, including banks and auditors.
  • Liaise with the Audit and Investment Committees.
  • Oversee the management of ERP systems.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Collaborate with management on program budgets and forecasts.
  • Work with the Competitions and Events team on budgeting for major events.
  • Manage insurance arrangements for World Athletics and associated events.
  • Ensure adherence to financial regulations and best practices.
  • Report on progress and priorities to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions defined by the Council and Executive Board.
  • Lead all financial activities on behalf of World Athletics.
