We are currently seeking a Lead Legal Strategist & Data Protection Officer (DPO) to become an integral part of our Legal and Compliance Team.

This team, comprising approximately thirteen professionals, plays a crucial role in Deezer's growth by managing music licensing agreements, overseeing commercial partnerships, and ensuring compliance with legal standards, particularly in relation to personal data protection.

Responsibilities as DPO:
  1. Act as the primary liaison within the organization for employees, regulatory bodies, and relevant public authorities concerning data protection matters;
  2. Ensure that Deezer's policies align with established codes of practice, including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation);
  3. Assess the current data protection framework to pinpoint areas lacking compliance and address any deficiencies (including revising existing internal data protection policies, guidelines, and procedures in collaboration with key stakeholders);
  4. Develop training programs and offer data protection guidance to staff members;
  5. Advise the data controller or data processor on all aspects related to data protection;
  6. Foster a culture of data protection and compliance throughout all organizational units.
Responsibilities within the Business Legal Team:
  1. Draft and negotiate various contracts related to Deezer's global commercial operations and manage litigation associated with Deezer's B2C and B2B activities;
  2. Address data and technology-related legal matters;
  3. Provide legal counsel and risk assessments to other departments.
Qualifications

This position is ideal for candidates who possess:

  1. A Master's Degree in Intellectual Property, Information Technology, or Data Protection;
  2. Over 5 years of experience in data protection compliance, either in a law firm or in-house;
  3. A solid understanding of technology, web, and mobile environments;
  4. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure while managing sensitive and confidential information;
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English, with the capability to engage with third parties and cross-functional teams internally.
