Machine Learning Engineer

As a Machine Learning Engineer at Mistral AI, you will be responsible for open-sourcing state-of-the-art models and maintaining our publicly available libraries. Your work will play a critical role in turning research breakthroughs into tangible solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Release our models to open source platforms and libraries, such as vLLM, GitHub, and Hugging Face.
- Maintain Mistral's open source libraries, including mistral-common, mistral-finetune, and mistralai.
- Develop and maintain tooling and services, both internal and external facing.
- Implement and optimize open-source libraries for performance and accuracy, ensuring production readiness and employing cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches.
- Collaborate with the open-source community and identify novel inference and training frameworks, as well as research approaches.
About the Role
- Our Machine Learning Engineering team is embedded in our Product development organization and works closely with our Science team.
- Our engineers can move fluidly between production and research, depending on the needs and their interests.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience contributing to popular open-source libraries, such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX, and vLLM.
- Passion for contributing to the open-source software ecosystem.
- Expert programming skills in Python and MLOps.
- Proficiency in frameworks like PyTorch, Jax, or TensorFlow.
- Adaptable, proactive, and autonomous.
- Attention to detail and a drive to build almost perfect tools.
- Deep understanding of machine learning approaches and algorithms.
- Collaborative and team player mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with training and fine-tuning large language models, such as distillation, supervised fine-tuning, and policy optimization.
- Worked with LLMs and research teams.
- Experience as a core-maintainer of a popular ML open-source library.
