About the Research Institution:

The Inria research center located in Saclay has been a pivotal establishment since its inception in 2008. It plays a crucial role in the advancement of the Saclay plateau, collaborating closely with Paris-Saclay University and the Polytechnic Institute of Paris. In a bid to foster a robust site policy, the Inria Saclay center formalized strategic partnerships in 2021 with these key local collaborators.

Research Objectives:

Under the guidance of their supervisor, the selected candidate will delve into the theoretical aspects of two-layer neural networks featuring ReLU activation, with a particular focus on understanding how the stochastic nature of Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) influences training dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting a comprehensive literature review
  • Implementing numerical simulations using Python for neural network models
  • Exploring theoretical outcomes related to neural networks through the application of mathematical concepts in non-convex optimization and stochastic differential equations

Required Skills:

  • Understanding of neural network theory
  • Ability to read and comprehend scientific literature in English
  • Proficiency in coding with Python
  • Knowledge of non-convex optimization techniques
  • Familiarity with differential equations
