Our Engineering Department

The Bureau of Technology (BoT) serves as the core of Back Market's technological efforts. It comprises over 30 dynamic product teams focused on developing and managing services that deliver substantial value to our customers and suppliers. Our Platform group, consisting of more than 10 specialized teams, addresses cross-functional technical challenges to enhance our operational efficiency.

We have created various groups dedicated to knowledge sharing across multiple technical disciplines, including security, backend, frontend, AI, and mobile. These groups act as collaborative hubs for professional growth.

As a Lead Backend Developer , you will collaborate closely with all squad members and the Staff Engineer of your group. Regular bi-monthly meetings with your group and the Backend Chapter will facilitate the exchange of successful strategies and ensure alignment with the broader technical vision.

Main Technical Challenges

Back Market's technical architecture is evolving towards a distributed and service-oriented model. Developing a suite of efficient and loosely coupled services is one of our primary challenges moving forward.

As a Lead Backend Developer, your challenges include:
  1. Ensuring a smooth transition with no downtime and preserving revenue.
  2. Simplifying the codebase while enhancing its adaptability for new market entries.
  3. Ensuring high performance and reliability in production environments.
Technical Environment

Application: Python - FastAPI framework, SQLAlchemy, Celery, Golang, Django (being phased out).

Data: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, BigQuery.

Infrastructure: GCP, Kubernetes (GKE) / Docker, Datadog, ArgoCD / CircleCI / Github.

Responsibilities in This Role

We seek a Lead Backend Developer to assist in building and operating efficient services with a focus on security and privacy to support business growth.

You will thrive in an agile 'build it and run it' environment where engineering teams are responsible for building, launching, monitoring, and supporting their own products.

Key Responsibilities As a Senior Engineer I: Produce, Innovate & Share
  • Facilitates meaningful discussions around complex issues.
  • Suggests or makes improvements for existing designs and architecture.
  • Explores technologies with a sizable potential impact on the team.
  • Contributes actively to high-impact chaos mitigation.
As a Senior Engineer II: Deliver, Advocate & Coordinate
  • Collaborates across the BoT to document and design how systems work and interact.
  • Masters their domain(s) technical scope.
  • Participates in defining the roadmap of their squad for the next 6 months.
  • Defines and promotes best practices and shares knowledge.
  • Takes ownership of transversal initiatives.
  • Works with a full level of autonomy.
