Deputy Editor - Euronews Green and Travel

Euronews is seeking a highly skilled Deputy Editor to join our team and play a pivotal role in the editorial development and ownership of our highly successful digital content verticals, Euronews Green and Euronews Travel.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with the Managing Editor to oversee the editorial development of all content.
  2. Step into the Managing Editor role when necessary.
  3. Write articles from scratch and adapt wires/agency copy.
  4. Sub-edit content written by team or freelance contributors.
  5. Commission articles.
  6. Maintain a keen eye for detail to ensure adherence to our daily and weekly publishing schedule.
  7. Continuously improve our content, style, and working processes.
  8. Build and maintain strong relationships with contributors, freelance writers, PRs, and internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Contribute to ideas generation for content forward planning.
  10. Oversee content for commercially driven events.
Requirements:
  1. 5+ years' experience in journalism.
  2. Exceptional editorial judgment and instinct for a great story.
  3. Experience in writing and sub-editing digital content, including wires and agency content.
  4. Experience with commissioning and managing freelance contributors.
  5. Able to interpret and use audience analytics for content development.
  6. Top-class organisational skills.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and a big-picture view.
  8. Passion for driving projects forward and bringing people on board.
  9. Aptitude for planning and setting priorities independently.
  10. Strong communication skills and a positive attitude, especially when working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  11. Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and deliver when faced with ambiguity.
  12. Perfect command of English required (C2), other European languages welcomed.

We are a high-performing team of journalists and producers who are passionate about spreading awareness of environmental and travel issues. This role is best suited to someone with a similar drive, demonstrated through experience within a digital-first news environment.

The Deputy Editor should lead by example, working creatively, collaboratively, and showing willingness to take risks and remain positive even when things don't go as planned.

This will be done in the knowledge that as long as your decisions are well thought through, responsible, and ethically sound, you'll be supported and encouraged by those around you.

Contract Information:
  1. Contract type: 1 year maternity cover, with potential for progression opportunities afterwards.
  2. Start date: 29th October 2024.
  3. Place of work: Fully remote but candidates must be based in UK or Europe time zones. Occasional work travel to see the team or gather content.
  4. Working hours: 8.30am-4.30pm or 10am-6pm CET.
