About the Job
General Objective:
The Safety Advisor plays a crucial role in coordinating safety and access-related information and activities in a geographic region, working in the interest of the humanitarian community. As an area coordinator, the Safety Advisor will lead a local team in one or several field offices, providing security analysis and advice that is vital to the efforts of the NGO community to deliver aid and assistance to those in need.
Main Challenges:
- Maintain constant situational awareness in the area of responsibility, providing qualified advisories to NGOs on safety and security management, and humanitarian access.
- Establish and maintain an active information network, including NGOs, the UN, military forces, and other national and international security actors, to obtain credible and relevant safety information.
- Provide NGOs with timely and credible security information and contextual analysis of the local security situation through interactions with NGOs in Sudan.
- Facilitate and lead regional NGO community security roundtables.
- Assist NGOs in developing their own security management capacities by reviewing policy documents, conducting site-security surveys, and assisting in crisis evacuation planning.
- Support NGOs with real-time incident and crisis management.
Priorities for the First Months:
- Obtain in-depth relevant situational awareness and granular knowledge of the humanitarian access and safety situations in the area of responsibility.
- Build and maintain a network of contacts in the area of responsibility to facilitate the flow of information and coordination on safety and access for humanitarians.
- Participate in relevant INGO Forum Working Groups and advisory bodies for the benefit of the wider humanitarian community.
- Engage in at least one field trip outside the base station to assess another area and meet with partners in the humanitarian community and stakeholders.
Your Profile:
Education/Academic Background:
A Master's degree in international relations is required.
Specific Skills and Experience:
- 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector.
- 3-4 years of experience in a similar position.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent writing skills to communicate information effectively with partners.
- Ability to utilize tools like Excel to generate quantitative data analysis on security trends.
- Work under pressure and adaptability.
- Strong initiative and improvisation capacities.
Language:
- Fluent English.
- French.
- Arabic is a strong asset.
SI Offers:
A Salaried Position:
According to experience, starting from EUR gross per month (base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD.
SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment.
Breaks:
During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with a USD break allowance, allocated by SI). To these breaks periods, SI grants one additional rest day per month worked.
Insurance Package:
Expatriates benefit from an insurance package that refunds all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care, and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.
Living Conditions:
In Geneina, the current situation is relatively calm.
