The CIMMYT-Shandong Joint Center is in search of an early-career, self-driven wheat scientist with proven expertise in molecular marker innovation, application, and advanced phenotyping methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the CIMMYT-Shandong wheat molecular breeding initiative aimed at developing wheat varieties with superior yield potential, resilience to limited irrigation, and tolerance to elevated temperatures.
- Establish robust phenotypic selection criteria utilizing both remote sensing and ground-based data.
- Incorporate molecular marker strategies to facilitate selection processes.
- Manage data curation, analysis, reporting, and dissemination of findings.
- Contribute to research proposals and explore opportunities for new partnerships and funding avenues.
- Oversee, mentor, and assess technicians.
- Co-mentor graduate students.
Qualifications:
- PhD in plant genetic breeding or closely related disciplines, with post-doctoral experience.
- Proficiency in high-throughput phenotyping, image analysis, and data extraction techniques.
- Experience in gene discovery along with molecular marker innovation and application.
- Skilled in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
- Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- The ideal candidate will possess competencies in problem-solving, decision-making, client engagement, negotiation, conflict resolution, communication, and teamwork.
This position is initially offered for a fixed term, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
