Job SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit in Sunderland. As a key member of our team, you will support the development and delivery of work packages for our nuclear, marine, and O&G clients. This role offers hybrid working and requires a strong background in mechanical and structural engineering.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project tasks and manage a team of engineers, coordinating with project management facilities.
- Produce high-quality engineering solutions across a wide range of topics and activities.
- Communicate progress to the Lead Engineer and Project Manager, providing feedback on technical development and project delivery.
- Mentor junior or graduate engineers, offering technical guidance and support.
- Efficiently manage time to meet agreed deadlines, target costs, and quality standards with minimal supervision.
- Over 55 years of experience in nuclear engineering.

- Hybrid work: 1-2 days remote per week.
- Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Relevant senior engineering experience in sectors like offshore, renewables, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries.
- Solid background in mechanical and structural engineering.
- Proficient with CAD software: Skilled in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and/or Catia.
- Strong mathematical skills: Experienced with MathCAD software.
- Skilled in producing technical reports: Expertise in creating design and substantiation reports, assembly procedures, etc.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes: Understanding of welding, machining, etc.
- Experienced with the engineering design cycle from Concept to Manufacture.
- Familiar with European and Offshore standards: Experience with Eurocode 3 and DNV.
- Master's degree is a plus.
- Skilled in checking and approving engineering CAD assemblies and drawings.
- Proficient in verifying engineering documentation: Manual calculations, reports, etc.
- Excellent Finite Element Analysis skills: In-depth knowledge of ANSYS Workbench is desirable.
- Experienced in non-linear and fatigue FEA: Familiar with DNV and Eurocodes.
