About the Role

The Detector & Electronics Group at ESRF is seeking a skilled X-ray Detector Specialist to join their team. As a key member of the group, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of X-ray detectors for synchrotron radiation beams.

Your primary duties will include:

  • Providing technical and operational support for measurement instruments managed by the Detector Unit
  • Carrying out repairs on simple and complex X-ray detectors
  • Contributing to the production of X-ray detectors, including follow-up and verification of internal or external manufacturing
  • Performing physical characterization of sensors
  • Testing and evaluating different types of instruments used in the Detector Unit, including the analysis of test results
  • Designing, building, or modifying X-ray detectors from the design phase (mechanics, electronics) up to their integration in a mechanical housing
  • Participating in the development of new X-ray detectors

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A Technical/Academic degree in instrumentation, physical measurements, technical engineering, or electrotechnics
  • Previous professional experience as an engineer assistant or equivalent
  • Good general understanding of physical measurements techniques and instrumentation
  • Basic skills in CAD, ideally with Solidworks and/or Altium for mechanical and electronic circuit designs
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users
  • Aptitude for team work
  • Well-organized, meticulous, and methodical approach to the work
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
