Role ResponsibilitiesThis position involves working on exterior building design, from foundation to rooftops. The role requires the ability to identify potential constructability or installation issues that may necessitate modifications to standard installation designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comprehend the phases of exterior wall construction projects, including shop drawings, modeling, design development, and construction documentation.
- Conduct field reviews and progress inspections on assigned projects.
- Perform detailed forensic investigations and analyses of failed or defective construction when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive reports, detailed documentation, schedules, and work estimates to track project activities.
- Execute weekly field observations on various components, including:
- Waterproofing below grade
- Vapor barriers and pipe penetrations beneath slabs
- Pre-installation observations of Shotcrete walls
- Building cladding observations, including vinyl siding, stucco, EIFS, and masonry
- Window application inspections and installations
- Roofing component observations throughout the roofing process
- Document conditions observed during inspections with field notes and photographs
- Address contractual issues as they arise
- Guide workers in performing repairs for non-conformance
- Draft Construction Field Directives, Professional Service Agreements, and Scopes of Work
- Provide minimal direction to administrative staff
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering (preferably Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical)
- 1-3 years of experience in building envelope design, inspection, development, or engineering
- Familiarity with current codes and standards
- Knowledge of waterproofing, exterior cladding, and building envelope components is advantageous
- Understanding of architectural design theories and structural concepts related to exterior wall construction
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and modeling/drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM)
Preferred Skills: Experience with Infra-Red, Wind Uplift Chamber, Air Barrier Testing, and Window Testing. Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification is a plus.
