Job Summary

The ESRF is seeking a skilled Mechanical Vacuum Technician to join its dynamic team. As a key member of the Vacuum Group, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the vacuum systems across the entire complex of accelerators and ESRF beamlines.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance analyses to optimize vacuum systems and improve efficiency.
  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs, ensuring seamless operation of vacuum equipment.
  • Undertake projects to enhance vacuum chamber assembly, testing, and modification.
  • Collaborate with teams for installation and provide technical support to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Clean and prepare components for vacuum exposure, adhering to strict quality standards.
  • Document procedures and results accurately, maintaining a high level of transparency and accountability.
  • Participate in routine and emergency maintenance, with mandatory standby to ensure business continuity.
  • Develop and implement innovative technologies and repair techniques to stay ahead of industry standards.

Requirements

  • Technical degree in Mechanical Construction or Metrology (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, Meister, Vordiplom, Perito, Laurea Triennale, Diplomatura, Ingegneria Tecnica or equivalent) with a minimum 120 ECTS.
  • At least five years of professional experience in the machining, assembly, and testing of mechanical components.
  • Proficiency in PC use and standard office software.
  • TIG welding experience is preferred, with knowledge of high/ultra-high vacuum practice considered a plus.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn about vacuum and UHV systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical heating and electrical safety is an advantage.
