Electrical Engineer for Critical Environments

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) serves as the backbone of our cloud services. As a CO+I Electrical Engineer, you will play a vital role in delivering the essential infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, which include Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Design

• Develop a foundational understanding of industry trends, competitor products, customer experiences, and advancements in various engineering disciplines. Collaborate with other engineers to comprehend and apply advanced concepts.
• Assist in the creation and execution of robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans for the electrical engineering components of a well-defined feature or product extension.
• Engage in the creation of intellectual property, potentially filing patents within your area of expertise and completing necessary documentation.
• Implement established solutions to common technical and/or design challenges, with guidance from other engineers.
• Analyze device specification sheets and interpret essential details required to design and test various hardware features.
• Generate design documentation, which may include drawings, specifications, schematics, or diagrams for features of well-defined products, under the guidance of a manager or other engineers.
• Review technical sheets from suppliers or partners for available components and select appropriate parts needed to support product development.

Testing and Verification

• Ensure that testing requirements are included in documentation and specifications for a feature or product.
• Identify the appropriate test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers) for measuring a product feature according to existing verification plans, with minimal supervision from other engineers.
• Write design verification test cases using standard templates and methodologies.
• Develop, review, and execute test plans and/or infrastructure for standard features or products.
• Assist in creating automated testing solutions and independently conduct automated testing on standard feature areas or products.
• Collect data for external testing supplier or partner selection options.
• Help set up and dismantle testing environments with guidance from other engineers, adhering to safety protocols.
• Participate in the development of dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics that can be utilized to characterize hardware and its performance.
• Analyze and interpret data and statistical analyses to identify common issues or flaws that may impact a feature or product design change, and communicate these to other engineers or team leads.
• Assist in developing basic test fixtures for use in testing or validating new product features under the guidance of other engineers.

Technical Project Implementation

• Adhere to project implementation schedules to deliver the hardware engineering aspects of a well-defined feature or product, escalating issues to management as necessary.
• Implement and monitor product plans under the guidance of other engineers.
• Identify potential issues that may affect downstream project execution (e.g., performance vs. reliability and manufacturing concerns).
• Research new tools, technologies, or processes for project implementation and provide reports to project team members.
• Assist in integrating risk assessments (e.g., supplier or partner delays, incomplete specifications, or tool issues) into project plans.
• Communicate project progress and status within the project team and escalate issues as necessary.

Reporting and Documentation

• Follow established procedures to contribute to creating detailed reports and functional specifications for a well-defined product feature or extension, based on audits and information from product development and verification processes.
• Document essential details about materials, components, and/or assemblies for a device via accepted release processes, accurately recording and tracking changes to designs following established procedures with some guidance from other engineers.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven relevant and related technical engineering experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in written, reading, and conversational English and French is required, as all business operations and customer communications are conducted in these languages.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is essential for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

While not mandatory, we also seek the following Preferred Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field AND technical engineering experience
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
