Motion Twin is a cooperative company based in Bordeaux, France, established in 2001. Our mission is to design and develop video games, with our latest title, Dead Cells, receiving critical acclaim, including the Game Awards 2018 for Best Action Game. Our upcoming game, Windblown, is scheduled for early access in 2024.
We are a team of 7 associates who oversee all aspects of game development, going beyond their technical roles. Each associate has a significant impact on project direction and the company's overall strategy. As we grow, new team members can eventually request associate status, allowing them to participate in decision-making and share the risks and rewards.
About the JobWe are seeking a Technical Artist with strong programming skills and a keen artistic sense to join our team. As a key member of our development team, you will work closely with our artists, level designers, and programmers to design, architect, implement, and maintain the visual aspects of our game.
This is not just a technical role; we are looking for someone who can contribute to our company's growth and development. You will be expected to take an interest in various aspects of the game, including strategy, organization, and company direction. Your input will be valued, and you will be encouraged to propose new solutions and ideas.
Responsibilities- Design, architect, and implement tools and pipelines related to visual effects in Unity, in collaboration with our artistic team, level designers, and programmers.
- Maintain, debug, and optimize these tools according to various constraints and platforms (PC, consoles, mobile), while preserving the artistic vision of the project.
- Stay up-to-date and proactively implement solutions, serving as a technical reference for visual and animation-related questions.
- Plan and decompose tasks based on collectively defined objectives.
- Take an interest in and contribute to company-wide discussions, extending beyond the scope of the current project.
- Ability to identify artistic needs and choose suitable technical solutions.
- Strong skills in creating and integrating tools within Unity, with a solid understanding of tools used in the production pipeline.
- Ability to develop and maintain these tools to make them accessible to the artistic team.
- Capacity to propose new technical solutions.
- Strong artistic foundations (composition, lighting, color theory) to understand and interpret the needs of the artistic team.
- Excellent knowledge of Unity, C#, and the URP pipeline.
- Proficiency in shaders, ShaderGraph, and associated languages (HLSL, ShaderLab, etc.).
- Proficiency in 3D software (Houdini, 3DSMax, Maya, Blender, etc.).
- Familiarity with 2D software (Substance Designer and Painter, Photoshop).
- Attention to detail and a focus on quality.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a game development studio.
- Fluency in French.
- Participation in the development of at least one commercially released game.
- Strong artistic sense and curiosity.
- Autonomy and good communication skills.
- Proactivity and a willingness to propose new ideas.
- Curiosity and a desire to expand your skillset beyond technical expertise.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback on your own work and that of others.
- Experience and willingness to work in a team.
- Full-time position (35 hours/week).
- Possibility of requesting associate status (equal rights and benefits as other associates).
- Work location: Bordeaux, France, or remote work possible (partial or full-time) from metropolitan France. Assistance with relocation possible, as well as a 6-month remote work period from your current location (modalities to be confirmed).
