Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Management, Organizational Behavior, Organization Studies, or a closely related discipline is essential at the time of hiring. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong potential for teaching excellence, institutional service, scholarly research, and publication in the fields of management, organizational behavior, organization studies, or a related area. Candidates who have completed their doctoral coursework but have not yet defended their dissertation, along with a robust teaching, service, or research agenda, may also be considered. The successful applicant should be adept at teaching management courses such as Foundations of Management, Strategic Management, and Organizational Behavior at both undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to specialized courses. Preference will be given to those who can instruct in at least two or more of the following specialized fields: marketing, sustainability management, NGO & mission-driven management, management of complexity, business ethics, project management, operations management, or entrepreneurship.
Applicants with experience in a liberal arts setting and an interest in contributing to AUP's core curriculum in areas such as digital literacy, experiential learning, and integrative inquiry are highly encouraged to apply. Faculty members at AUP are expected to be committed to liberal arts education within a highly international context and to engage in interdisciplinary education and research. The university provides support and mentorship to new faculty, including a course release during the initial year of appointment. As a full-time faculty member, the candidate will be required to teach six courses per academic year and must show a commitment to scholarship and high-quality interdisciplinary teaching. A suitable candidate will be expected to engage in curriculum development and innovation, student advising, pedagogical assessment, and institutional service at both the department and university levels, including key leadership roles such as department chair, graduate program director, committee chair, etc. While EU citizenship is considered beneficial, it is not a mandatory requirement for this position.
The Institution: Established in 1962, The American University of Paris (AUP) is a small institution offering undergraduate and master's degrees with a Liberal Arts core, dedicated to the advancement of the Arts & Sciences in an international and multicultural environment. AUP merges the values of the American higher education system with its European context. Situated at the intersection of American and European higher education and research institutions, AUP facilitates the development of an international and stimulating professional network for its faculty. The Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredits AUP in the United States. AUP has cooperative agreements with universities based in the USA and Europe.
The Department: The Economics and Management Department aims to provide an interdisciplinary and international learning environment that encourages students to explore various perspectives and methods of critical thinking. With a focus on reflective and ethical approaches to contemporary economic and management challenges, students are being prepared for further academic pursuits and their future professional careers. Our diverse faculty possesses a wide range of academic and professional experiences and is dedicated to creating engaging and rewarding classroom experiences. The department offers five majors, six minors, and an MSc in International Management. Additionally, we provide a joint MSc program in Strategic Brand Management in collaboration with the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture, as well as a five-year BA/MSc program.
