Biotech Consultant

I. Background

The CIP is seeking a Biotech Consultant to contribute to the Global Biotech Potato Partnership (GBPP) project. The project aims to develop a late blight resistant potato using genetic engineering. The successful candidate will work on molecular diagnostics of potato diseases, molecular characterization of transgenic events, and validation of event specific detection in the field.

II. Objectives

• Develop and implement molecular diagnostics for potato diseases.
• Characterize transgenic events using PCR, RTq-PCR, Southern blot, sequencing, and bioinformatics.
• Validate event specific detection in the field.
• Perform bio-assays using artificial infection of potato plants.
• Screen for effector molecules.

III. Deliverables

• Molecular diagnostics of potato diseases.
• Molecular characterization of transgenic events.
• Validation of event specific detection in the field.
• Bio-assays using artificial infection of potato plants.
• Effector screening.
• Report writing and submission.

IV. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Background in disease diagnostics.
• At least one year of experience in tissue culture, preferably with roots, tubers, or bananas.
• Advanced written and oral communication skills in English.

V. Time Frame

• The consultancy contract will be for a maximum of 60 days.
