Job Overview
Touton SA is in search of a dedicated Sustainability Coordinator to enhance and advance the Group's sustainability initiatives for coffee, vanilla, and other spices/ingredients, with a particular emphasis on sustainable coffee projects and strategies in East Africa.
The successful applicant will operate under the guidance of the Sustainability Group Director and collaborate closely with the current sustainability team and traders.
The role necessitates regular travel to sourcing locations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Promote the adoption of sustainable and traceable commodities in accordance with targets and client expectations; serve as the primary contact for certification inquiries and supplier verifications, prepare for external audits, assist trade with requests, communication materials, and data, while working alongside suppliers and sourcing locations to support traceability and certification.
• Assist in project management: nurture relationships with implementing partners, funders, clients, and other stakeholders; oversee project execution; coordinate the submission of financial and narrative reports.
• Manage external stakeholder relationships and reporting requirements as necessary, adhering to platform initiatives, and represent the group in working groups and steering committees.
• Stay informed about industry trends, legislative changes, and identify new risks and opportunities to aid in advancing the Group's sustainability agenda.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience in a sustainability role, preferably within the agricultural or commodity trading sector, sustainability consultancy, or NGO.
• Strong numerical, analytical, and research capabilities, with a proven understanding of data collection and traceability.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; experience working with various internal and external stakeholders across multiple sourcing locations.
• Proven experience in creating, managing, and executing project budgets and work plans, along with reporting to diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with data management processes, tools, and software.
• Ability to prioritize workload effectively and approach problem-solving in a logical and systematic manner when addressing complex issues.
• Experience in the coffee industry (highly desirable) or other tropical commodities (essential), along with knowledge of certifications, supply chain engagement, and auditing systems.
• Proficiency in English and French is required.
