Context and Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at INRIA. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a benchmark for sketch-based modeling, a crucial aspect of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems.
The goal of this research is to convert freehand drawings into parametric CAD models that can be reused in downstream applications. To achieve this, we aim to create a comprehensive dataset of design drawings and corresponding CAD models.
Key Activities
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for collecting professional drawings and their corresponding CAD models. They will also analyze the collected data to inform the design of sketch-based modeling systems.
Specifically, the researcher will:
- Collect a set of high-quality CAD models from public datasets
- Hire professional designers to draw these CAD shapes
- Align the drawing strokes with the CAD instructions that generate the same shape parts
- Analyze the collected data to measure statistics about CAD operations and drawing techniques
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience in implementing 3D user interfaces and/or geometry processing algorithms. They will also be familiar with cloud-based CAD modeling tools and have a strong understanding of design principles.
