Role Overview

The primary responsibility of the API Governance Product Owner is to ensure uniformity in API design across Allianz Trade. This involves leading the API governance team to establish and enforce design principles that align with the expectations of the global API developer and Product Owner community.

In this role, you will provide guidance and support to development teams, aiming to foster independence while ensuring adherence to established standards.

Your expertise will be critical in selecting and maintaining the right tools that facilitate both autonomy and oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prioritize and manage the backlog of necessary updates to the API governance framework, including rules and workflows.
  • Oversee the Global API design guide and the global API catalog.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional IT teams (Architecture, Cloud, Development, Security, etc.) to create and sustain efficient workflows.
  • Critically assess API designs from a business perspective, ensuring clarity in object naming, avoidance of jargon, and relevance of data sources.
  • Validate OpenAPI specifications, providing feedback for necessary adjustments and ensuring alignment with implementation.
  • Review security-related aspects of API design.
  • Work closely with Data Governance specialists to enhance and harmonize workflows between data modeling and API design.
  • Document business requirements, epics, user stories, and test plans comprehensively.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess API maturity within Allianz Trade.
  • Maintain strong relationships with all API Product Owners.
  • Stay informed about the roadmap of major Allianz Trade initiatives.
Main Tasks
  • Validate OpenAPI specifications within GitLab, halting delivery if quality standards are not met.
  • Continuously enhance the AZ Trade API design guide in collaboration with the architecture team and Product Owners.
  • Provide training and coaching to Product Owners on API design requirements.
  • Drive improvements in the validation toolchain, focusing on automation and self-service for the Product Owner and development community.
  • Monitor and report on overall API maturity.
  • Assist Product Owners and teams in understanding business drivers to facilitate informed decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Strong business-oriented mindset with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, showcasing a professional approach to collaboration.
  • Extensive knowledge of REST APIs and OpenAPI 3 / JSON concepts and designs.
  • Ability to challenge design exceptions proposed by senior developers and Product Owners.
  • Passion for data modeling and APIs as tools for business optimization and process transformation.
  • Capacity to understand client needs and market trends through engagement and research.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to promote your product internally through presentations, demos, and relevant materials.
  • High level of responsiveness.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the latest API developments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic familiarity with AWS, a programming language such as Node.js, and an API testing tool like Postman is advantageous.
