Principle Power stands at the forefront of technology and services for the floating offshore wind energy sector. The WindFloat platform, recognized globally for its innovative design, allows offshore wind turbines to be installed in various water depths and seabed conditions, thereby unlocking the potential of offshore wind energy globally. Principle Power collaborates closely with developers, independent power producers, utilities, and EPCs, offering support throughout the entire lifecycle of their projects. With a cumulative capacity of 105 MW either operational or in advanced development, and a multi-GW commercial pipeline, Principle Power is the leading entity in floating offshore wind technology.
Position Overview
To strengthen our European team, located in Lisbon and Aix-en-Provence, we are seeking a Senior Mooring and Cable Engineer to contribute to our numerous global projects involving the next generation of WindFloat platforms.
Role Summary
The Mooring and Cable Group is dedicated to executing engineering tasks that support ongoing commercial projects, as well as conducting R&D studies aimed at optimizing performance and reducing costs associated with WindFloat technology for future endeavors, all while ensuring the reliability of the overall system.
The mission of the Mooring and Cable Group is to deliver dependable station-keeping solutions for the deployment of WindFloat technology worldwide, alongside ensuring the reliable transmission of renewable energy generated by these assets.
In this role, the Senior Mooring and Cable Engineer will be expected to perform engineering tasks with minimal supervision. This position reports to the Mooring and Cable Lead Engineer, with the potential to oversee engineering work as assigned by the Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement design methodologies to deliver reliable technical solutions for station-keeping and subsea power transmission systems utilized in Principle Power's floating offshore wind projects globally.
- Contribute to the creation of technical documentation for external stakeholders, including clients, classification societies, and suppliers.
- Enhance technical capabilities through active involvement in significant commercial projects, R&D initiatives, and mentoring of junior engineers within the Group.
- Take ownership of technical interfaces with both internal teams and external partners.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables on projects by applying and refining QAQC processes.
- Gather and analyze feedback from deployed units to drive technical advancements in future floating offshore wind units.
- Keep the Group at the forefront of industry developments through continuous technical monitoring (newsletters, training, seminars, conferences, and workshops).
Essential Qualifications
- Master of Science or higher in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Naval Engineering).
Required Skills
- At least 5 years of professional experience in designing mooring and/or cable systems for pre-FEED/FEED/Detailed design phases.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience with tools such as OrcaFlex and openFAST or similar software.
- Advanced proficiency in FAST, Orcaflex/Deeplines, Matlab/Python, and Microsoft Office.
- Extensive experience in conducting mooring and/or cable analysis, design, and engineering deliverables.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in mooring and/or cable systems, including hydrodynamics and/or aerodynamics.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and persistence.
- Accountability for the technical solutions proposed.
- Proficient reporting skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Self-driven team player.
- Ability to thrive in multicultural and diverse environments.
- Experience in offshore operations.
