Position Overview

Role: Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Glasgow

Type: Contract/Staff Position

Your Future Team:

The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary engineering team under the Approving Authority. The main objective of this role is to provide direct support for ongoing operations and future initiatives, particularly in the context of nuclear facilities and service delivery across various client sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Infrastructure Design Substantiation documentation.
  • Manage design modifications and concessions.
  • Present design substantiations to safety committees.
  • Develop EIMT schedules, procedures, and results.
  • Prepare Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Advise both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct Independent Technical Reviews.
  • Apply engineering expertise in nuclear and high-risk environments.
  • Justify modifications to civil and structural designs.
  • Review reports and safety submissions.
  • Verify calculations and technical documentation.

Qualifications
  • Familiarity with current design standards and practices, including British and European Standards.
  • Theoretical and practical expertise across concept, detailed design, and construction phases for electrical engineering projects.
  • Experience in evaluating electrical plant and equipment for potential hazards.
  • Specification of electrical systems/components for HV and LV networks at both 50Hz and 60Hz.
  • Capability to author technical justifications for electrical design changes in high-hazard industries.
  • Knowledge of industrial machinery such as pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, and PAVA Systems.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects providing electrical engineering input, particularly in industrial and maritime sectors.
  • Proficiency in high-risk environments.
  • Familiarity with safety case development techniques, including HAZID and HAZOP studies.
  • Experience within the UK nuclear industry (energy or defense), especially concerning safety-related structures, systems, and components.
  • Understanding of UK and US nuclear industry regulations, along with the application of nuclear-specific codes and standards.
Additional Information
  • This is a hybrid role requiring visits to client sites and office locations.
  • Security Clearance: SC, UK National.
  • BEng in electrical engineering or equivalent experience is required.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Training related to safety cases is essential.
