Job Description

Context and Key Skills

INRIA, a leading research institute in France, is seeking a highly skilled researcher to join its Rainbow team. The successful candidate will work on a PhD project titled "Forming Carbon Fiber Tissues by Visual Servoing" as part of the PERFORM program.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented researcher with expertise in robotics, computer vision, and control systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in C++, Python, and ROS, as well as experience in visual servoing and 3D perception with RGB-D cameras.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough literature review on deformable object manipulation
  • Develop a strategy for interacting and manipulating deformable objects, including the design of the effector and perception system
  • Model the deformation of the object based on the movements of the grasping points
  • Design and implement an algorithm for tracking the deformations of the object using RGB-D camera data
  • Develop a visual servoing control method to apply a desired deformation to the object
  • Design an experimental protocol, acquire data, and reconstruct/model the deformable objects using meshing techniques
  • Validate the results on a case study defined by INRIA
  • Follow the capitalization process of the ROC team at INRIA
  • Present the progress of the work during the annual PERFORM seminar organized by INRIA
  • Write scientific articles and a PhD thesis
  • Defend the PhD thesis

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of control systems, robotics, and computer vision
  • Experience in C++, Python, and ROS
  • Experience in visual servoing and 3D perception with RGB-D cameras
  • Good understanding of meshing techniques and object modeling
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Salary
