Role & Responsibilities

The ambitious upgrade initiative at the European Synchrotron has introduced a state-of-the-art storage ring, paving the way for revolutionary scientific discoveries. The Accelerator Control System is spread across numerous computer hosts and embedded systems.

As a member of a dedicated team of engineers and technicians, you will engage in the development, upkeep, and support of this Accelerator Control System, focusing on the following key responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and provide support for software related to the accelerator control system
  • Collaborate in the software development for integrating various equipment with the control system
  • Take charge of designing and maintaining graphical user interfaces for the accelerator control system
  • Work alongside physicists and equipment engineers to define and develop feedback algorithms and high-level user interfaces
  • Participate in on-call service duties and/or shift work, accounting for up to 15% of your working time
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent with 300 ECTS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficient in object-oriented software development, particularly in Python and C++
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies and continuous integration practices (Git, DevOps)
  • Proven experience in designing and programming graphical user interfaces
  • Familiarity with Java is considered a plus
  • Knowledge of PyQt/matplotlib or Flask/React is appreciated
  • Solid experience working in a Linux environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to thrive in a multidisciplinary and international research setting
  • Proficient in English (the working language), with knowledge of French being advantageous
