Senior Staff Attorney, Insurance Defense

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Attorney to join our team in Insurance Defense Litigation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for handling complex and high-exposure litigation cases throughout South Louisiana, with a focus on the New Orleans and surrounding regions.
Responsibilities- Handle complex and high-exposure litigation cases, analyzing intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues.
- Conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients, and prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs.
- Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues.
- Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
- Participate in site and product inspections, including retaining and engaging with expert witnesses.
- Independently prepare, present, and defend witnesses at depositions and trials, hearings, and mediations.
- Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
- Provide damages and liability opinions to Managing Attorney, clients, and claims customers.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice in Louisiana and local federal courts.
- Knowledge of Louisiana courts with available transportation.
- Member in good standing of all Louisiana State and Federal Courts and the Louisiana Bar Association.
- 7+ years of legal practice experience handling tort defense cases.
- Documented first chair jury trial/appellate expertise.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time.
- Strong communication, computer, and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
- Demonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigation.
The Hartford offers a competitive annualized base pay range of $123,360 - $185,040, as well as a comprehensive total compensation package that includes short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
